Legacy Birthday Run/ Walk/ Run/ w…a…l…k

September 2nd is a milestone birthday for me.  I’m doing three significant things to honor this birthday;

  • First, and foremost, I’m giving special thanks to God, for blessing me with such a wonderful life, family,  friends, and good health, I am truly blessed

  • All meals on September 2, 2011, will require chopsticks (sushi for lunch, Benihana for dinner)

  • My Legacy Birthday Run/ walk/  w…a…l…k

My run on September 2nd is very important to me.  It is a repeat of another birthday run I did on an earlier milestone birthday.

Another Problem Solved By Twitter

I posted on July 16th that I was having a severe hiss problem in my recordings and it pretty much closed my studio down.  To the rescue…Twitter.  I tweeted the link to my post hoping there was someone out there among my twitter friends who might have a suggestion to solve the problem.  Within just a few hours Mike Laponis (twitter handle @mikeraphone) tweets to let me know he has help for me.  He saw Voice Over Tech Guru, George Whittam at an event that night, and mentioned my problem to George.  George offered to help and said if I send him a sound file, he would diagnose the problem and try to solve it.

The next day, I’m on the phone with George at Eldorado Recording Services in LA.  End of story, problem solved. Oh, and the original cause of the problem “user error”.  George Whittman’s services were not free, but the small cost, and quick results, were well worth the price.

This example points out, again, how valuable social media is to business, especially entrepreneurs.  If you and your business are not actively engaged in social media, you are missing great resources and tons of business opportunities.

Hiss Problems

I need some help.  During the past two days, Microsoft has been doing several updates to Windows 7.  In addition to other major problems this has caused for me, one of the biggest is that I’m pretty sure it’s goofing with my audio.

My audio stream goes from my Sennheiser 416 through a Presaonus Eq/Compressor to an Alesis mixer and then into my computer.  I use Adobe Audition for editing.  The Alesis mixer serves as a sound card for vo work on my computer.  Here’s the problem; I’m getting significant hiss in my recording.  I don’t hear this through my headphones while recording, but on playback and any sound files I create (any format) the hiss is there

.

Could something have been done to my sound settings within Windows 7, or something else as a result of the update that is causing this problem.  One other note, my headphones runn off the Alesis, so when I record I hear the sound before it goes in the computer.
